KARACHI, July 30: A 45-year-old man was shot dead on Wednesday by his two younger brothers in Bilal Colony, police said.

Quaidabad police said Sher Mohammed, son of Rasheed Khan, was shot dead at his house at around 12.30pm by his brothers, Akhtar and Siraj, who fled the scene.

SHO Inspector Asif Rauf told Dawn that the victim was a labourer and his younger brothers, who lived in the same street, killed him over a monetary dispute.

He said that suspect Akhtar phoned the police control and told the operator that his brother, Sher Mohammed, came to his house and quarrelled with him.

The SHO said he along with a police party reached Akhtar’s house where the suspect told him that his brother had left.

Inspector Asif said that the suspect again phoned the police telling them that he had killed his brother.

He said that the police reached the spot immediately and found the victim lying dead in a pool of blood. The suspects also fired at the victim’s 16-year-old son in their bid to kill him but he escaped.

The body was moved to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where sources said the victim had received four bullets from a close range.

The police registered a case against the two absconding brothers under Section 302 and 324 of the Pakistan Penal Code for murdering Sher Mohammed and attempting to murder the complainant, the victim’s son.The police said the suspected brothers were also married and the family hailed from the NWFP.

Teenager killed

A 16-year-old motorcyclist was knocked down by a car in Bath Island.

Boat Basin police said the family of the victim hailing from Sargodha pardoned the woman who was driving the car.

The body of the victim, identified as Mohammed Umer, son of Ghulam Sarwer, was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

The police said the car driver, Hina Jamal, daughter of Zaid Jamal, was pardoned by the victim’s family.

Labourer killed

A 24-year-old man was killed when he was hit by a fast-moving water tanker in Safoora Goth.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where the deceased was identified as Wazir Ahmed, son of Ahmed Bux, resident of Korangi.

Sachal police said that Rehman Ahmed, the victim’s brother-in-law, lodged an FIR against the water tanker driver, who fled the scene after the incident.

The police said the driver was not identified till late, though his vehicle (QAC-8002) was impounded.

They said the victim was a labourer.

Unknown man killed

A young man was killed when he was run over by a fast-moving bus in the limits of Jauharabad police.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed where the dead remained unidentified. Hospital sources said the man, clad in a light grey shalwar-qamees, was in his early 30s.

The police said they had arrested the bus driver, identified as Ali Murad.

They said the body was kept at the Edhi morgue for want of identification.

Another unidentified man was knocked down by a hit-and-run vehicle on Ziaul Islam Road in Gulberg.

The body was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed and later kept at the Edhi morgue.

Hospital sources said the victim was in his mid 30s.

Rain death toll

Three people were killed in rain-related incidents across the city since the first monsoon rains lashed the city on Tuesday evening.

The provincial health minister, Sagheer Ahmed, told Dawn that only three victims of rain-related incidents were brought to the city hospitals.

He said two victims were electrocuted and a woman was killed when a wall of her house collapsed.
