TIMERGARA, July 30: A representative jirga of elders of Lower Dir has decided not allow miscreants or militants in their respective areas and called upon the government not to establish any checkpost in the district.

The jirga, attended by local political leaders, social figures, nazims, councillors and elders from Shalpalam, Toormang, Khal and Rabat union councils, was held on Wednesday to discuss the law and order situation in the area.

The jirga was also attended by DPO Sayed Fida Hussain and DCO Suhail Khan.

The jirga, sources said, decided that local people would not let miscreants enter their respective union councils.

The jirga said every effort should be made to maintain peace and harmony in the area.

The jirga, the sources said, also decided that if the Taliban or other militants were present in the area they would be expelled forthwith and militancy would not be left to flourish and take roots in the district.

They further said that members of the jirga were unanimous that any foreign militant found in their areas would be executed with the support of the jirga members.
