No final decision on Asif yet

LAHORE, July 29: The Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) fact-finding committee, which is reviewing the case of fast bowler Mohammad Asif’s detention at the Dubai airport, met here on Tuesday.

However, the committee could not take a final decision over the fate of the lanky paceman, who is also facing punishment after testing positive in the Indian Premier League (IPL) dope test.

“The committee considered the report received from the Dubai authorities and Asif’s reply and it may take some more days to take a final decision,” Zakir Khan, one of the committee members, said.

Asif was detained at the Dubai airport on June 1 for about three weeks for possessing an allegedly banned substance in his wallet as he was coming from India after playing the IPL matches.

Sources told Dawn that Asif would not face any relaxation since his case had been damaged after he tested positive in the IPL.

Asif is likely to face a two-year ban for his Dubai detention, sources claimed.
