KARACHI: More rainfall expected

KARACHI, July 29: The city on Tuesday received its first monsoon showers, which continued intermittently till late in the night.

“The rainfall is likely to be light to moderate in most parts of lower Sindh in the next 24 to 38 hours,” said chief meteorologist Mohammad Riaz.

Till 10pm, the Met Office recorded a maximum of 48mm (1.87 inches) rain in the city.

Mr Riaz said that at present, a low-pressure monsoon current is prevailing in Sindh, particularly its south-east region, causing rains in Karachi and other parts of the province.

The monsoon system has entered Sindh from Rajasthan and it is expected to persist till the next 24 to 38 hours, causing more rain, with the wind speed expected to be 40km per hour.

The maximum temperature on Tuesday was recorded as 37.5 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature was 27.5 degrees Celsius, with 70 per cent humidity.

The Met Office forecast for Wednesday is cloudy weather with chances of thunderstorm/rain.

Till 10pm, the observatory at Karachi Airport recorded 48mm rain. The reading at PAF Base Masroor at 9pm was 30mm; PAF Base Faisal recorded 16mm rain and North Karachi recorded 30.5mm.
