KARACHI, July 29: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has established People’s Housing Cell, headed by his special assistant and former senior bureaucrat Zia Islam.The cell will ensure construction of 100,000 low-cost houses by the end of this year. The aim of the cell is to provide shelter to the poor people as envisioned by Benazir Bhutto, says a press statement.

In the first phase, the construction of low-cost houses will be initiated in Larkana, Khairpur, Hyderabad, Nawabshah, Thatta, Badin and Karachi.

The special assistant has asked all the district coordination officers of Sindh to visit such areas pointed out by executive district officers revenue to Land Utilization Department, so that low-cost houses be established there as soon as possible.

He also instructed them to send a report in this connection, so that he along with Sindh Chief Minister could also visit such areas.

Compensation

Meanwhile, the Provincial Ombudsman, Asad Ashraf Malik, has directed City District Government Karachi and concerned departments to compensate the “patharawalas” and “thelawalas” removed from public places.

He issued the directive while deciding on a complaint filed by a disabled person Mohammed Rasheed.—Agencies
