Greece to field 156 athletes

ATHENS, July 28: Greece are to send 156 athletes to the Beijing Olympics, their largest delegation after the Athens Games, including controversial sprinter Ekaterina Thanou, the Hellenic Olympic Committee said on Monday.

In total, 84 men and 72 women will represent Greece in 23 disciplines.

The Greek athletics squad also includes Athens 2004 women’s triple jump silver medalist Hrysopiyi Devetzi, 2006 European men’s 400m hurdles champion Periklis Iakovakis and Athanassia Tsoumeleka, the defending Olympic champion in the women’s 20km walk.—AFP
