12 bodies, officials served notices for policy violations: Ministry’s meeting with Senate Committee

ISLAMABAD, July 28: The Federal Sports Ministry has sent show cause notices to 12 sports federations for violating the sports policy and has asked a number of their office-bearers to quit posts before Aug 20 or face strict action.

This was informed by the Federal Sports Minister, Najamuddin Khan on Monday at the sub-committee meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on Sports.

The Federal Minister pointed that “show cause notices have been sent to the sports federations while a rejoinder will be sent again so to end the monopoly created by the federations’ officials.”

“There are people in sports federations who have been holding offices for more than their defined legal term,” he observed.

The Sports Ministry gave a detailed presentation on Monday to the committee for improvement of sports in the country. The sub-committee on sports was headed by Senator Enver Baig.

The sub-committee also summoned squash and hockey legends for suggestions on how to improve the respective sports. The committee will now convene on Aug 30.

The list provided by the sports ministry to the committee included the names of following officials: Maj (r) Mohammad Afzal (Pakistan Volleyball Federation) who is holding office as secretary for a third term, Chadhry Mohammad Aslam (weightlifting) holding treasurer’s office for a fifth term, Jawaid S Lodhi (shooting) holding the office as treasure since 1989, Syed Mohammad Ghaznavi (boxing) holding trasurer’s office for sixth term, Idris Haider Khawaja (cycling) holding the office as a secretary for the fourth term, Khawaja Farooq Saeed (gymnastics) serving as president for the third term, Prof Painda A Malik (Gymnastics) holding the office as a secretary for the third term, Mohammad Shafiq (handball) holding the office as secretary for a fifth term, Munir Ahmed Dar (karate) holding president’s office for a third term, Mohammad Jahangir (karate) holding secretary office for a third term, Brig (r) Jan Nadir Khan (adventure) holding the office as a president since 1985, Col (r) G.H. Gamar (adventure) holding the office as secretary since 1999, Ali Ashgar Valika (billiards & snooker) holding president’s office since 1988, Aspi Mavalvala (Billiards & snooker) holding the office as secretary since 1994, Wahid F Tawawalla (billiards & snooker) holding the office as treasurer since 1998, Mohammad Ramazan Chana (shooting ball) holding the office as president for a third term, Chaudhry Mohammad Saleem (shooting ball) holding secretary’s post for a fourth term and Chaudhry Aslam Wasim (shooting ball) holding the office as treasurer for a third term.
