Remand of ‘terrorist’ extended

RAWALPINDI, July 28: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) here on Monday extended the physical remand of a suspected terrorist for two days after R.A. Bazaar police sought more time to interrogate the accused.
ATC-I Judge Chaudhry Habibur Rehman extended the remand of Umer Adil, a resident of Islamabad, till Wednesday on the termination of the earlier 12-day physical remand.
According to the police, Adil was arrested from Baraf Khana in Tench Bhatta area early July 2 morning and seized two grenades from his possession. A case was registered against him under different sections of the Explosive Act, Pakistan Penal Code and the Anti-Terrorism Act.
More importantly the police suspect Umer’s involvement in a suicide attack that took place near the General Headquarters (GHQ) on September 4 last year, killing two shopkeepers and wounding several passers-by. The police had carried out his identification parade in Adiala Jail and were interrogating the accused after “some positive developments”.
