KARACHI, July 28: The police have assured the bar representatives of adequate security measures, including the provision of a bullet-proof car, for the deposed chief justice on his arrival here at 11.30am on Tuesday.

Sindh High Court Bar Association President Rasheed A. Razvi and Karachi Bar Association President Mahmoodul Hasan remained in contact with the police high-ups to finalize the security arrangements. SHCBA Secretary Munirur Rehman, Pakistan Bar Council member Yasin Khan Azad and Sindh Bar Council members Mustafa Lakhani and Salahuddin Gandapur held a press conference to announce the details of Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry’s visit.

From the airport, the deposed CJ would be driven to a hotel adjacent the Polo Ground (Bagh-i-Jinnah). He would meet the deposed judges of the Sindh High Court at the residence of the deposed SHC chief justice Sabihuddin Ahmed at 4pm. He would attend a dinner hosted by the KBA at the Lawyers Club near Bilawal House.

The deposed CJ would visit the SHCBA bar room to unveil a commemorative plaque naming the hall after him. He would address the SHCBA members on the occasion.

Deposed Supreme Court judge Raja Fayyaz, deposed Lahore High Court judge Khwaja Sharif and deposed LHC judge Iqbal Hameed, meanwhile, arrived here on Monday.

Reception plan

The legal fraternity, leaders of political parties and representatives of non-governmental organizations and civil society on Monday vowed to give a ‘historic’ welcome reception at the Karachi airport to deposed chief justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry.

Addressing a press conference at the Karachi Press Club, Sindh High Court Bar Association President Rasheed A. Razvi, KBA president Mahmoodul Hasan, PML-N leader Saleem Zia, provincial chief of the Jamaat-i-Islami Asadullah Bhutto, Asadullah Khan Agha of the Tehrik-i-Insaf, Iqbal Haider of the HRCP and the representatives of NGOs and civil society resolved to give a befitting welcome to the deposed chief justice, and asked the people to attend the reception.
