KARACHI, July 27: Public fancy three-year-old bay filly Blassom produced an awesome performance to complete a hat-trick by landing the feature event at the Karachi Racecourse here on Sunday.

Blassom galloped to a splendid 10 lengths’ victory over colt Star Is Born in a smart time of one minute 2 3/5 seconds under rider Ghulam Shabbir II to do the joint owners and trainer proud.

Shabbir had replaced original rider Tariq Baran who steered Blassom to triumph in the preceding two races.

Blassom’s victory was never in doubt considering her present form. She was among the front runners soon after the start and picked up momentum after getting into straight for home to register an impressive win.

Colt The Ghazan Prince and mare The Princess Aram completed the board in the same order in a field of seven runners.

In a late burst favourite colt Star Of Galaxy came from behind to edge bay Manan Prince by half-a-length to claim the supporting event and make it three on the trot.

The combination of jockey M. Nasir and trainer Mushtaq Ali Khan were instrumental in the victory, their second of the day.

Filly Sahibzadi finished third, half-a-length behind, while mare Closing Argument completed the frame.

Earlier the rider and trainer met with success in the third race when bay Cash Deposit lowered the colours of favourite Again Of Arab returning to a facile seven-and-a-half lengths’ victory to land his maiden race of the season.

Three-year-old dark bay filly Baby John pulled-off second upset of the day by getting the better of favourite colt The Reyan by five lengths. The field was reduced to nine following withdrawals of Sing Sing and King Of Karachi.

She had beaten the favourite horse on July 6 also but luck was not at her side as the race was cancelled after it was run for want of competition.

Rider M. Manzoor piloted three-year-old bay colt Whirl Wind to an impressive seven lengths’ maiden victory in the fourth race.

Unknown pedigree Catch It and mare Queen Of Kinjher made amends to claim the honours in the first two races.
