Two hurt as tanker hits landmine

By Our Correspondent

RAJANPUR, July 27: A driver and his helper working on Kachi Canal were critically injured after their water tanker hit a landmine in Rojhan on Sunday.

The injured driver was identified as Nawab Ali and helper as Wazir Ali.

It is learnt that the Central China Power Group International Company had intimated the higher authorities some time back that work on the canal would be difficult to continue as some influential people of the area were creating law and order situation.

The company claimed that the Border Military Police (BMP) and some local politicians, especially after the general elections, had started making undue demands.

The company alleged that they would often stop supply, beat up the staff and also steal diesel from the project site.

The company management has threatened to suspend the work on the project if the authorities concerned fail to provide them security.

Rajanpur DPO Dr Rizwan said the police force had been deployed in force in the canal project area.
