Pak Edition favourite to win today
By Aftab Gilani
LAHORE, July 26: Three-year-old chestnut colt Pak Edition who is consistently showing improvement in each running should win the feature event during the day/ night Lahore Summer Meeting at the floodlit Racecourse on Sunday evening.
The son of Dubai Edition out-of-Twichey, Pak Edition is contesting in the Jhang Plate, class five division I and II combined handicap race.
On his last outing, Pak Edition was placed second behind Velocity in the same class on July 15. That is a performance, which is enough to recommend the colt to make amends this time and win the race against mediocre opponents.
Hallow Dancer, Bold Act and Don’t Follow may fight for places.
This will be the sixth and last race of the day.
Diamond Sky, The News and Al Ain look good among nine runners drawn for the fifth and the supporting event.
The News is running after a long interval, which makes her success doubtful and she needs at least a run to be in fine trim.
The way three-year-old bay filly registered a facile victory on July 20, she should make it two-in-a-row.
Al Ain, Iconic and Shim Jim should fight for places.
The Jhang Plate class five division II will be contested by nine runners barring last-minute withdrawals.
Four-year-old red-roan filly Snow Fall and Big Bird are in-form horses in the ten-runner field for the fourth race.
After winning three back-to-back races, Snow Fall was beaten to third place behind Brave Heart and Big Bird in a dramatic show.
What happened to the filly was not known with everything shrouded in suspicion. Now she should make amends and win.
Royal Gesture and Big Bird will be her main opponents. Bay colt Life is said to be tracking well but the field is not so weak for him on the first try out.
Black King, Mera Chan and Cleopatra are strong contenders for the third race.
They should fight for picking up the spoils in this race.
Chestnut colt Blitz, beaten to second place by Diamond Sky, should run well in the second race.
Bird Fly, Tree Of Life and Umer Prince will be strong challengers in this race.
Dream Memories, Freeze and Super Sonic are the prominent ones in the dozen sprinters listed for the opener. They should fight a tough battle for supremacy.
On recent form, Dream Memories has an edge over others.
A card of six events will be contested in the day/night programme. The first four races will be run over 900 metres while the other two will go over 1,200 metres each.
The first race will be held at 5.30pm.
