FAISALABAD, July 26: Scrutiny for the selection of deserving families is in process as the Punjab government is set to launch the Food Stamp Scheme on Aug 14.

S.A. Hamid, the chairman of taskforce, told reporters at Circuit House on Saturday that the Rs22 billion worth of project would help about two million people.

Each deserving family selected for the scheme would get Rs1,000 monthly through money order for the purchase of flour, oil and other edibles.

He said the government had directed the parliamentarians to select 5,000 families each in their respective areas and their verification would be carried out through payer leaders, councillors and lumberdars. He said a similar scheme was launched in the PML-N’s first stint in power and that served to mitigate the miseries for a number of people.

Mr Hamid also held talks with the elected representatives in Faisalabad and Sargodha and discussed with them the procedural points of the scheme. He asked them select the deserving people alone irrespective of their political affiliations to achieve the goal.
