RAWALPINDI, July 26: President Pakistan Muslim League (PML) Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has directed the party leaders to strengthen the party at the ward and union council level across the country before launching a movement against the rulers.

This was stated by former provincial minister and PML leader Raja Mohammed Basharat while addressing a meeting of party workers here on Saturday. The meeting was attended by City Nazim Raja Javed Ikhlas, President PML Rawalpindi chapter Raja Nasir, town nazims and party workers.

A five-member committee was constituted comprising the PML city president Raja Rashid Hafiz, Afzal Khokhar, Hamid Nawaz Raja, former MPA Fiazul Hassan Chohan and Zohaib Khan Afridi.

Mr Basharat on the occasion announced that the PML would convene a district convention in Rawalpindi on August 14 which would be attended by Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, former Punajb chief minister Pervaiz Elahi and other leaders of the party.

He criticised the performance of PML-N, saying the Punjab government was implementing its agenda of postings, transfers and revengeful politics.

The participants said the local MNAs and MPAs of PML-N were sitting in police stations of the city to protect their‘criminal’ companions, adding voters were regretting their decision of pinning hopes on PML-N as they were not being facilitated by the parliamentarians.

They also alleged that the elected representatives of PML had been denied uplift works in their respective areas in order to discredit their performance.

“You should organise the party so that we could launch a fruitful and decisive movement against the rulers in general and Punjab government in particular ahead of Ramazan. We would not be successful until we organise the party at the grassroots level,” Raja Basharat told the meeting.

He said the local government system was like a thorn in the eyes of PML-N that was why the provincial government was using all tactics to abolish the system and harass the elected councillors.
