HYDERABAD, July 25: A two-and-half feet piece of down-country rail track was damaged amid sound of an explosion near Bangali Para here late on Friday.

Pakistan Railways and Bomb Disposal Squad officials said that a two-and-half feet piece of the track was damaged which has caused suspension of railway traffic on it. Before the incident, a goods train had passed through the track.

Officials were examining the track till the filing of this report amid reports that it was damaged with the sound of a blast. “We can’t rule out that somebody has loosened nuts or bolts of the track which caused the damage”, said an official while requesting anonymity.

Karachi Divisional Superintendent Railways Mir Mohammad said: “We have not suspended traffic on the up track which remains clear.” He said that traffic on down track had been suspended till the track was repaired.

Meanwhile, train traffic from Karachi to rest of the country was suspended following the incident, reports our staff reporter from Karachi.

Trains in the Karachi region were stopped there and others in Hyderabad.

Similarly, Karachi-bound trai-ns from up country were stopped in a similar manner, a railway official confirmed. He was not sure when could the traffic be resumed.
