HYDERABAD, July 25: An intermediate student has not been able to obtain his Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) because he has a twin brother and since his brother has been issued with CNIC with almost similar particulars he is being denied the same.

Irfan Ahmed is a son of a labourer, Zakir Ali, who works at an industrial unit in Site area. He is a resident of Majeed colony unit-12 Latifabad. Her mother, Shahida, gave birth to twin brothers, Irfan Ahmed and Furkan Ahmed on May 19, 1988.

The two applied for CNIC in Nadra office after giving their complete particulars. However, only his brother Furkan Ahmed has been issued with CNIC but he is denied on the grounds that the same person is trying to obtain two CNIC. His family tried to convince the Nadra officials that it was not the case but in vain.

Ahmed said that he had applied for CNIC in March last year but since then he had not been able to obtain it. He said after securing CNIC his twin brother was now serving as clerk in the army.

“But I am running from pillar to post to get the ID card. I went to Karachi office of Nadra after being advised by the local officials, but my issue remained unresolved,” he said.

He said that local Nadra officials themselves admitted that it was great injustice to him because in absence of his CNIC he couldn’t appear in recruitment process of district police Hyderabad on July 21.

“We sent a snap in which I and my brothers were appearing to convince Nadra’s Islamabad based officials that we are twins and their fears are unfounded but perhaps they didn’t rely on us,” he complained.

He said that he had sent photo copies of different documents after spending around Rs1000-Rs1200 so far.

According to his claim there is an option in the Nadra’s CNIC form for twins under which one of the twins’ particulars are entered and the form number of second is mentioned in the same document to show that two separate persons were seeking CNIC.

A local Nadra official on condition of anonymity said that such cases are now being resolved.

He said that a joint snapshot was obtained in the office and after due verification from Islamabad the CNIC had been issued to twin bothers or sisters.

He said that in case there is some problem the complainant could approach Nadra official again.
