MULTAN, July 25: Deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry was accorded a warm welcome by a large number of lawyers and political activists on his arrival here on Friday.

On Saturday morning, he would leave for Bahawalpur via Shujabad, Jalalpur Pirwala and Lodhran.

In Bahawalpur, he would address a lawyers’ convention.

The welcome rally was more impressive than the long march which had started from here on June 10 with larger participation of lawyers and PML-N workers.

Activists of Jamaat-i-Islami and Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf were also at the airport to welcome Justice Iftikhar.

The deposed chief justice was taken to the city in a procession.

The participants chanted slogans in support of independent judiciary and reinstatement of the judges.

Strict security arrangements were made and Punjab Police personnel were deployed along the route of the procession.
