SHIKARPUR, July 25: The activists of Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) and its affiliated organisations took out rallies and staged demonstrations in many parts of Sindh on Friday in protest against record raise in prices of fuel, general commodities, growing poverty, and poor law and order in the country.

Jamaat-i-Islami leaders slammed the government and said that the present government was acting reverse of its manifesto and since its came into power it had given nothing to the people except lawlessness and price hike.

In Shikarpur the JI activists took out a rally and staged a demonstration to protest against increase in prices of petrol and food items.

Speaking on the occasion, Sindh JI Amir Abdul Hafeez Bijarani, district JI Amir Maulvi Sadaruddin Mahar and other party leaders expressed concern over the increasing price hike and poverty.

They said that the PPP-led government had snatched from people their fundamental right to live.

They said that people had given mandate to People’s Party candidates in the general elections on the assurance that they would provide cheap food and other necessary daily use items as per their slogans of “Roti, Kapra Aur Makan”.

They demanded of the government to reduce the prices of essential consumer goods and solve the food problems faced by the people.

In Mirpurkhas, Jamaat-i-Islami workers staged a demonstration at Makkah Masjid Chowk in Satellite Town after Juma to protest against record raise in prices of fuel and goods.

Led by local JI leader Zafar Iqbal Mujahid the protesters carried banners and raised slogans against the government.

Addressing the protesters, he said that poor people were passing through difficult times as prices of commodities were raised at phenomenal pace.

He said lawlessness had become the order of the day and poor people were compelled to commit suicides due to extreme poverty.

He said that prices of petroleum products had decreased in international market but the government was not giving relief to people. Those who raised slogan of “Roti, Kapra Aur Makan” had now snatched the bread from the poor, he said.

In Sukkur, scores of JI activists took out a rally which culminated into a demonstration at the Clock Tower.

JI activists, led by Prof Masood Ali Khan and others, took to streets while shouting slogans against the government and marching on main roads reached the Clock Tower, where they staged a protest demonstration.

The protestors were carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans against lawlessness and price hike.

Addressing the protestors, JI leaders criticised the recent increase in prices of petroleum products, they said that it was a mockery with people, who were expecting relief from the democratic government.

They said the government had claimed to provide relief to people in first 100 days, but the first 100 days only brought miseries to the masses, which were already crushed under the heavy weight of price hike.

They said that rulers were busy touring foreign countries and had no time to look into the miseries of people.

They demanded of the government to take corrective measures to over come lawlessness and price hike.
