Life sentence given to man for killing wife
By Our Reporter
RAWALPINDI, July 24: An additional district and sessions judge here on Thursday handed down life imprisonment to a man for murdering his newly-wed wife some two years ago.
Judge Mustafa Tanveer sentenced Amir Shahzad to life imprisonment for shooting dead his wife Shazia in the limits of the Rawat police station on September 28, 2006. The court also imposed Rs100,000 fine on the convict, who would have to undergo another six months imprisonment if he failed to pay the fine.
Brother of the deceased had complained to the Rawat police that his sister’s in-laws called him and informed that Shazia had shot herself dead.
But when he reached his sister’s house, he noticed two injuries on the upper torso of the deceased.
The complainant said he was not allowed to see his brother-in-law, which gave credence to the suspicion that his sister did not commit suicide; rather she was murdered by Shahzad with whom she got married two months ago.
Meanwhile, a civil judge sent four men to Adiala Jail on judicial remand after they were arrested by the Anti Narcotics Force (ANF) for carrying 7kg charas.
Chaudhry Basit Aleem remanded Sabirullah, Jafar Ali, Sher Khan and Mohammad Naeem to the jail after the ANF did not seek their physical custody. The accused were arrested from Faizabad bus terminal on July 22.
