ISLAMABAD, July 23: Japan will provide help for a drinking water project in Faisalabad. Under the $42 million project, water supply installations will be set up in the city.

Documents for the project were signed on Wednesday at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Statistics by Japanese Ambassador Seiji Kojima and Junaid Iqbal Chaudhry, acting secretary of the ministry.

The project is designed to supply 200 cubic metres drinking water per hour, or 91,000 cubic metres a day with the help of 25 tube wells and the same number of pumps.

It will improve the quality of water by installing quality testing machines and reinforcing the water pipe. The project is designed to minimise any adverse affect on agriculture.

After completion of the project, 1.56 million people will get 130 litres of water a day and the supply will be round the clock.
