Youth injured by robbers dies

LAHORE, July 23: A 21-year-old youth, who was shot at an injured by two robbers in Awan Town, Sabzazar, on Tuesday night, succumbed to his injuries in a local hospital early on Wednesday.

Mian Sajjad, of B-Block, Hassan Town, and his father Khalid, both employees of the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited, were on their way on a motorcycle (LEL-9304) when two robbers took them on gunpoint in Awan Town.

When robbers tried to snatch bike, Sajjad offered resistance upon which they shot at him and fled. Sajjad was taken to Jinnah Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries next morning.

The Sabzazar police registered a case on the complaint of Khalid and sent the body for an autopsy.

Meanwhile, locals have condemned the police for its failure in controlling the rising crime. They said the area had become safe haven of dacoits and robbers who were playing havoc with the lives and properties of innocent citizens.

ROBBERIES: Dr Asim Aslam, a resident of B-Block, Iqbal Avenue Housing Society, was going home after saying his evening prayer in a mosque in Johar Town police precincts when two robbers intercepted him and asked him to hand them over his wallet.

On resistance, the robbers shot at him and fled without booty. He was taken to Jinnah Hospital with two bullet wounds in his back.

Four robbers stopped one Muzafar Hussain in Batapur police limits and deprived him of two cell phones.

Kamran Peter and his wife were on their way in jurisdiction of Gulshan-i-Ravi police station when robbers snatched from them Rs5,000 in cash, seven tolas of gold ornaments and two cell phones.
