LAHORE, July 23: Punjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Mujahid Kamran on Wednesday held a meeting with the Higher Education Commission-funded PhD and M.Phil scholars at the PU.

The meeting discussed the issues including, supervision of research thesis, funds, hostel allotment, access to international research journals through internet for references, delay in appointment of examiners and other issues.

Doctoral Programme Coordination Committee chairperson Prof Dr Shahida Hasnain, Undergraduate Programme director Prof Dr Jamil Anwar, Hall Council chairman Prof Dr Saeed Ahmad Nagra, Information Technology Centre’s chief director and the chief librarian and some 200 PhD and M.Phil scholars were present.

VC Prof Kamran said universitiesc2 creative and research work made them superior from colleges and varsities should provide maximum research facilities and address problems being faced by research scholars on a priority basis.

He said the university had called a meeting of M.Phil and PhD scholars to identify and address their problems.

Various PhD scholars briefed the house about general problems being faced by them and their class fellows.

The VC and doctoral programme committee chairperson and other officials concerned listened to their complaints and issued directives for the solution of those problems.

The PhD scholars acknowledged that the PU doctoral office had become active since the last six months because a teacher vice-chancellor was focusing on promotion of research culture in the varsity.

Prof Kamran also called a separate meeting of PhD scholars of the Institute of Education and Research (IER), Institute of Business Administration (IBA) and Department of Applied Psychology to identify and address their problems.

It may be mentioned that the non-HEC PhD scholars of PU will soon be called.
