PML-Q plans workers’ conventions

By Our Staff Reporter

ISLAMABAD, July 23: Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has said that the government has failed to fulfil the promises the parties in the ruling coalition made during the election campaign and after forming the government about providing relief to people.

Addressing a press conference after a meeting of the Pakistan Muslim League-Q’s leaders and nazims here on Wednesday, Chaudhry Pervaiz said the party would launch a campaign to mobilise the masses.

He said the PML-Q would defend the local government system which, according to him, had provided the basic democratic units and served the poor.

“We will foil any attempt to abolish the district government system,” he said.

He accused the Punjab government of victimising opposition activists and said a ‘white paper’ would be issued about actions taken against district governments in Punjab.

He said district conventions of PML-Q workers would be held all over the province and a provincial convention in Rawalpindi on Aug 14.

He denied having made any contact with Pakistan People’s Party’s co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari.
