RAWALPINDI, July 23: Regional Police Officer (RPO) DIG Nasir Khan Durrani on Wednesday carried out surprise inspection of Waris Khan police station and suspended 12 sub-inspectors (SIs) and assistance sub-inspectors (ASIs) on charges of poor investigation and failure in checking crimes.

He also ordered the circle chief to hold departmental inquiries against the guilty cops and submit a report within two weeks.

The RPO’s visit to the Waris Khan police station was kept secret unlike his previous visit to the Taxila police station.

A spokesman for the RPO said DIG Durrani carried out detailed inspection of investigation in some important cases.

In one murder case, the entire proceedings were completed within nine months and the accused was ultimately acquitted on account of weak evidence. He said after finding flaws in the investigation, the RPO suspended investigation officer Nazar Mohammad and ordered an inquiry against him.

The RPO also observed that in a number of narcotics cases, the case property was found missing from the record, and in most of the attack cases result in injuries, the “weapons” were not recovered by the investigating officer, thus giving favour to the accused party.

The spokesman said the RPO ordered the suspension of Mohammad Yousaf, Abid Hussain, Mohammad Hanif, Khyzer Hayat, Mohammad Ashraf, Asghar Ali, Altaf Hussain, Mohammad Kausar, Amir Sultan, Sikandar Khan and Waheed Iqbal, and ordered the SDPO to hold inquiries against them.

DIG Durrani expressed dissatisfaction at the crime situation in the area and directed the police officers to implement the ‘car safety plan’ of the Anti-Car Lifting Cell to check auto thefts.

He was informed by the SDPOs that the police were in contact with traders and bankers, who had been briefed on the security drill. They said action had been taken against 150 businessmen for violating shops and establishment acts.

DIG Durrani warned the police officers that it would be the responsibility of the SHO and SDPO of a particular zone to ensure that no anti-social activity took place in their jurisdiction.
