HYDERABAD, July 22: The Naib Amir of Jamaat-i-Islami Prof Ghafoor Ahmed said on Tuesday that the only solution to pull the country out of present crisis was to accept supremacy of parliament, reinstate deposed judges and impeach the president.

Speaking to journalists at the JI office here, JI leader said that he was not hopeful about present coalition because Mian Nawaz Sharif was abroad and his party’s ministers had left ministries.

He urged the rulers do shun extravaganza and provide relief to people. It had become quite difficult to say who was calling the shots in the government, which was still directionless and visionless.

The Pakistan People’s Party had received sympathy votes after the assassination of its leader Benazir Bhutto but the government had put the murder investigation on the backburner, he said.

Prof Ghafoor said that Asif Ali Zardari himself should bear expenses of a United Nations-led investigation into the murder of Benazir Bhutto instead of passing on the burden to national exchequer.

All the close associates of late Benazir Bhutto were being cornered and it was for the first time that a prime minister’s live televised address to nation had been disrupted, he said, urging that it must be investigated.

He said that the government had not stopped overspending and convening meetings abroad while price-hike had made people’s lives unbearable. Repeated statements on Talibanisation in Karachi were an attempt to invite US armed forces, he said.

He said that everyone was aware of the forces behind recent series of bomb explosions but the government had been made a hostage and was reluctant to take any action.

He said that people with no representation like Asif Zardari, Hussain Haqqani, Rehman Malik and Salman Taseer were running the government, rendering parliament useless.

He called for the reinstatement of deposed judges in accordance with Murree declaration, impeachment of the president and giving autonomy to provinces.

He said that fuel prices were skyrocketing, forcing transporters to resort to strike but rulers were enjoying joyrides in bullet proof vehicles. Instead of taking dictation from the US the government should take care of its national security, he advised.
