Students end strike

By Our Correspondent

QUETTA, July 21: Three activists of the Baloch Students’ Action Committee ended their hunger strike on Monday after the speaker of the Balochistan Assembly and a provincial minister assured them that a committee formed by the governor would formulate its recommendations about a policy for admission to the University of Information Technology in 20 days.

Speaker Mohammad Aslam Bhootani, Minister Sardar Aslam Bizenjo and MPA Basant Lal Gulshan visited the camp where Qamar Baloch, Khurshid Baloch and Qayyum Baloch had been on a hunger strike for 11 days and urged them to call off their protest and wait for the committee’s report.

The protesters who are demanding admission to the university on the basis of quota accepted the assurance.

Mr Bhootani expressed the hope that the issue would be resolved amicably.

The committee comprises provincial ministers Aslam Bizenjo and Asad Baloch, IT University Vice-chancellor Farooq Ahmed Bazai, Advocate-General Salahuddin Mengal, Prof Arbab Ghulam Rasool Kasi of Bolan Medical College, Education Secretary Jan Mohammad Dashti, Senator Dr Malik Baloch and Kachkol Ali Baloch of the National Party, MPA Jaffar Khan Mandokhel and Jehanzeb Tareen of the PML-Q, Qahar Wadan of the Pukhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party and Ahmed Jan of the Pukhtunkhwa Students’ Organisation.
