KARACHI: Three killed in separate incidents

KARACHI, July 21: A 50-year-old cashier of a private firm, who was on way to his office on the Sharea Faisal after withdrawing cash from a nearby bank, was shot dead on Monday by two bandits who decamped with nearly one million rupees, police said.

Frere police said Ghaniul Haq was returning to his office in his car when two motorcyclists held him hostage at gunpoint as he stopped his car at a traffic light near Mehran Hotel.

The police said the bandits snatched Rs900,000 from the victim who was also armed with a licensed pistol.

They said the dacoits became jittery when they saw their victim armed and opened fire on him.

The fatally wounded man was taken to the nearby Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where sources said that a single bullet hit the victim’s face from a point blank range and it went through his jaw.

The victim, father of five, was the resident of New Chali.

Police believed that the culprits were chasing the victim since he withdrew the money from the bank.

The police have registered a murder-cum-robbery case against unknown bandits on the complaint of Badam Gul, a co-worker of the victim.

Body found

A 35-year-old man was found shot dead at a desolate place near Gilanabad, Madina Colony No 2 in Khokrapar.

The body was shifted to the JPMC where the victim was identified as Sohail Ahmed, son of Samiuddin, resident of Madina Colony.

The police said that the victim was an electrician by profession and father of two children.

They said that the victim had been missing since Sunday night. The police said that the victim was identified at the hospital by his relatives.

A case against unknown culprits was registered on the complaint of the victim’s father. The police said that the victim was not affiliated with any political or sectarian outfit.

They said that the incident seemed to be motivated by some personal feud.

Killed by stray bullet

A 60-year-old man was killed when he received a stray bullet in Ghas Mandi.

Garden police said that Alam, son of Abdullah, was standing in the balcony of his first-floor apartment when he received the fatal bullet.

They said the participants of a wedding party resorted to heavy aerial firing in the vicinity. They said a stray bullet hit the victim who died on the spot.

The police have registered a case against the bridegroom, Imran Ahmed, and others on the complaint of the victim’s son.

The victim, a labourer, was the father of four children. The police said that no arrests had been made so far.

Victim identified

A 35-year-old man, who was found shot dead on July 18 within the limits of the Manghopir police station, was identified as Habibullah.

The police said that they had also arrested two suspects for the murder of Habib. The suspects were identified as Sultan and Adam Khan.

They said the victim was the owner of a shop and Adam used to be his employee. The police said that the victim had sold out his shop and left for his hometown in Gujranwala.

Rangers injured

Four personnel of Rangers and a passerby were wounded in a shootout with gangsters in a neighbourhood of the mafia-infested Lyari.

The injured were shifted to the JPMC where sources said that all the injured were in stable condition as none of them received any life-threatening injuries.

A Rangers official said that two or three gangsters were also injured in the shootout.
