Gangsters attack FIA, get detainee freed

GUJRANWALA, July 19: Fifteen people attacked a Federal Investigation Agency team and got freed a man arrested by it from Gujrat on Saturday.

FIA Gujranwala Passport Cell Additional Director Husain Ahmad said the agency wanted Tariq in human smuggling cases. An FIA team arrested him from his village, Tanda, but 15 of his relatives attacked the raiding team and manhandled the inspector leading the team. They also resorted to aerial firing and got freed Tariq.

Tanda police have registered a case against the attackers.

It is learnt that Tariq received Rs450,000 from complainant Hasan Iqbal to send him abroad, but neither he sent him abroad nor returned his money.

Separately, FIA claimed on Saturday to have arrested three human smugglers in a raid and seized from them fake passports and other documents.

An FIA team arrested Rukhsar from Phalia, Talib Husain from Gujranwala and Razzaq from Aimanabad Mor. It is said the accused received Rs900,000 per head to send people to Greece and European countries, but neither they sent them abroad nor returned their money.

DEMO: People of Lohianwala locality staged a demonstration here on Saturday and threw the traffic out of gear on Sialkot Road in protest against issuance of two electricity bills by the Gujranwala Electric Power Company (Gepco) in one month.

The protesters said they were issued electricity bills for the month of June with July 16 deadline and they paid these bills. A few days later, Gepco again issued them bills for the month of June with July 23 deadline. They protested against the issuance of two bill for the same month and appealed to the Gepco chief executive officer to take the latter bill back.

ROBBERY: Robbers deprived the general manager of a multinational company of Rs3.55 million on GT Road on Saturday.

Riaz Ahmad Janjua was on his way to his office after withdrawing Rs3.55 million from a bank when six robbers stopped him on GT Road in Sabzi Mandi police precincts, snatched cash from him and fled.
