Diya to face WP in key encounter today
KARACHI, July 17: Karachi’s Diya Women’s Football Club and Lahore’s WP Club — Wednesday’s winners in the Super Four stage of the first National Women’s Football Club Championship — will be facing each other in a crucial encounter at Lahore’s Punjab Stadium on Friday afternoon.
Both teams have three points each from their respective Super Four wins. Diya beat Sialkot’s Vehari United 4-0 while WP Club beat their first-day rivals Rawalpindi’s Young Rising Stars 2-0 to gain three points each, making them the league toppers.
Another win for either Diya or WP Club will mean six points and the top position in the Super Four tournament.
Meanwhile, WP’s skipper Shabana Kausar, the scorer of two hat-tricks in the championship, has claimed to add to her tally of 12 in Friday’s match.
The day’s other match would see Tuesday’s two losing outfits - Vehari United and Young Rising Stars - clash with each other.
But for now all eyes are fixed on the Karachi team and the Lahore team, which is also the tournament favourite.
Friday’s fixtures: WP Club v Diya Club at 4.30pm and Vehari United v Young Rising Star at 6.00pm.
