KARACHI, July 17: The amendment made to the Provincial Employees Social Security Ordinance-1965 will bring the workers drawing up to Rs10, 000 salary a month or earning Rs400 into the ambit of social security benefits, according to Sindh Labour Minister Ameer Nawab Khan, who is also chairman of the Sindh Employees Social Security Institution (SESSI).

The slabs fixed earlier were 50 per cent of the two amounts, he said in a statement issued on Thursday. The government had issued a gazette notification for the implementation of the amended rule, he added.

The workers drawing a monthly salary of Rs10,000 would continue to receive the benefits even if their wages were increased at a later stage, he clarified. He said the new rule would be effective from July 1, 2008.—PPI
