ISLAMABAD, July 16: The Islamabad High Court reserved on Wednesday its verdict on a case about detention of nuclear scientist Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan. The judgment will be announced on July 21.

Dr Khan said in a letter submitted to the court by his lawyer that he had been ‘misquoted’ by the media and he had not given any statement detrimental to national interest.

“I cannot even imagine making a statement detrimental to the interests of my beloved country for which I and my family made so much sacrifice,” he added.

He said the media had misquoted him on several occasions and his rebuttals and clarifications were not published. Dr Khan maintained that people with vested interests were carrying on a disinformation campaign and malicious propaganda against him.

The case was heard in camera in the chamber of Chief Justice Sardar Mohammad Aslam after Dr Khan’s lawyer Barrister M. Javed Jafferi, Deputy Attorney General Raja Abdur Rehman and federation’s counsel Ahmer Bilal Sufi agreed that the proceedings be held in the chamber.
