PCB files review petition in SC: Saleem Altaf case
By Our Sports Reporter
LAHORE, July 16: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has filed a review petition before the Supreme Court to reconsider its early decision of upholding the Lahore High Court’s interim order in the case against board’s director special projects, Saleem Altaf.
Saleem, a former Test fast bowler, had his services suspended last month in mysterious circumstances well before the expiry of his contract which will be due in 2011.
Saleem challenged the termination in the LHC which in its interim order gave relief to the former Test cricketer, setting aside the PCB order. The PCB later moved an application in the Supreme Court where a three-member bench again upheld the LHC’s decision to reinstate Saleem.
When Saleem came to the PCB offices with Supreme Court’s order, the PCB chief operating officer Shafqat Naghmi met him at the Gaddafi Stadium and informed him that the PCB chairman will meet him on Friday, soon after his return from London, to take a final decision.
However, the PCB has now filed the review petition, which means it will continue to fight the case in the court.
Sources said that the PCB has already spent Rs5 million on the Saleem Altaf case with little success.
