KARACHI: Arshad Pappu indicted in three murder cases

By Ishaq Tanoli

KARACHI, July 16: An alleged gangster of Lyari, Arshad alias Pappu, and his brother, Yasir Arafat, were again indicted on Wednesday in three murder cases by Abdul Naeem Memon, Additional District and Sessions Judge-VI, South.

The court had earlier indicted the two on May 14 in three cases of murder registered at Kalakot and Chakiwara police stations.

However, some technical errors were found in the indictment, and on the request of the defence counsel, Mohammad Farooq, the court reframed charges against the accused on Wednesday. The court summoned the prosecution witnesses to record their statements on Aug 20.

Arshad Pappu and Yasir Arafat, with their associates, had allegedly opened fire in a market in Kalakot, seriously injuring Abdul Basit, Shoaib and Zubair. Later, Basit died and a case (FIR 51/04) was registered at the Kalakot police station.

In the second case, he and his accomplices were charged with killing Inamul Haq in front of his house in Kalakot on May 28, 2004.

A case (FIR 131/04) under Section 302/34 of the PPC was registered on the complaint of the victim’s son. The third case of murder was registered at the Chakiwara police station.

Judgment reserved

Additional District and Sessions Judge, Central, Nilofer Shahnawaz, has reserved the verdict till July 31 in the murder case of a 14-year-old boy after recording arguments from both sides.

The prosecutor sought capital punishment for Mohammad Younus for stabbing and killing Mohammad Ghiyas, 14, in Liaquatabad after an exchange of hot words on Aug 20, 2001.
