Another man falls victim to ‘head-hitter(s)’

LAHORE, July 15: Serial head-hitter(s) once again struck in the city after a lapse of two weeks, this time killing a middle-aged tailor sleeping outside his shop in Block-III of Green Town early on Tuesday.

Green Town police registered a case against the unidentified killer(s) on the complaint of victim Rana Ejaz Hussain’s brother Hafiz Mudassar.

The victim’s nephew Hafiz Mubashir told Dawn that his uncle remained busy doing his work till late on Monday and preferred to sleep outside his shop instead of returning home.

He was found lying unconscious with serious head injuries on early Tuesday. A local boy informed his family and the police. He was shifted to the Jinnah Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The police said unidentified attacker(s) hit the victim’s skull with a heavy object.

DIES: A young painter succumbed to his head injuries in the hospital few hours after two brothers allegedly injured him with a hockey and an iron rod over a money dispute in Ismaelpura, Baidian Road, on Monday.

Victim’s father Hakeem Rehmat told Dawn at the city mortuary that his son Asif, 25, was a painter and used to work with two brothers Nadeem and Imran of the same area. On Monday, Asif, who had lent Rs8,000 to Imran, asked him to return the money but he refused.

“Both brothers started quarrelling with Asif in the main bazaar after which he came to my shop. After some time both Imran and his brother Nadeem, armed with a hockey and an iron rod, turned up there, dragged Asif out of the shop and hit his head with the weapons, leaving him unconscious,” Rehmat said.

He said he rushed his son to the Services Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries at around 6am on Tuesday.

South Cantonment police registered a murder case against two brothers on the complaint of Rehmat Ali with no arrest so far.

SHOT DEAD: A young married woman was shot dead allegedly by his brother over a domestic issue near Laddahy Shah Shrine, Shahdara Town, on Tuesday.

According to police, Hina Kanwal, 26, mother of two, was married and had come to Lahore to visit her parents, where she had a quarrel with her brother Kamran. Kamran allegedly thrashed Hina and then opened fire on her. She died on the spot.

Police have arrested the accused after registering the case.

MURDERED: The body of a 14-year-old youth was found hanging with a tree in Haji Kot locality of Shahdara Town on Tuesday.

A local man found the body hanging with a tree and informed police which shifted it to the city mortuary for autopsy.

According to initial police investigation, some unidentified people subjected the boy to severe torture and later hanged his body after strangling him with a piece of cloth.Officials at the city mortuary told Dawn that there were no marks of sexual assault on the boy.
