KARACHI: Transfer of BB’s accounts: sureties furnished

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, July 14: Two sureties amounting to Rs5 million each have been furnished to the nazir of the Sindh High Court on behalf of Pakistan People’s Party co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari for transfer of the bank accounts maintained by his late wife, former prime minister Benazir Bhutto, in his name.

Allowing Mr Zardari’s application for a succession certificate on Friday, Justice Khwaja Naveed Ahmed said the matter had been extensively reported by the media but no objection had been raised by any person, including the couple’s adult son, Bilawal, and daughter, Bakhtawar.

As for Mr Zardari’s 15-year-old daughter, Asifa Zardari, it was observed that the applicant was her guardian ad litem. The requirement of publication of Mr Zardari’s plea could be dispensed with.

The applicant was asked to furnish two sureties in a sum of Rs5 million each to obtain the certificate.
