SAHIWAL, July 13: The body of a woman, who had been missing for the last 10 days, was found in the farm of her husband in village 94/9-L on Sunday.

Reports said a divorcee, Bakhat Bibi (40) of Chak 84/5-L, had contracted marriage with widower Anwar Ali (44) some three years back. Anwer had two girls from his first wife while he had a child from his second wife.

Allah Ditta, the brother of Bakhat, said the couple had not been in good terms for the last one and half years and that his sister had complained that she was often subjected to torture.

In May last, he said Anwer had severely thrashed his sister and fractured her left arm. Upon her complaint, the Yousafwala police had registered a case against Anwer. Later, the matter was resolved through panchayat and Anwer had to pay Rs50,000 as compensation to his wife.

“This has actually prompted Anwer to kill his sister,” he alleged.

When his brother asked Anwer repeatedly about the whereabouts of his sister, he filed an application against Allah Ditta for kidnapping his wife with the Yousafwala police.

During investigation, Allah Ditta told police about the previous panchayat decision alleging that his sister’s husband and his family had a hand in the missing of Bakhat.

At this, police registered an FIR against Anwer Ali and his brother Nawaz under PPC 364/109 on July 10.

Investigation in-charge Rana Nadeem took into custody rickshaw driver Ghulam Rasool on July 11 on suspicion as neighbors told police about his frequent visits to Anwer's house for the last many days.

During investigation, Rasool disclosed that Bakhat Bibi was strangled to death by her husband Anwer Ali, his brother Nawaz and their friend Arif. Later, they removed the body in his rickshaw to Anwer’s farm and buried her near the tubewell.

Inspector Nadeem said that police recovered the body and shifted it to a hospital for autopsy. He said the murder case against the accused would be registered after the confirmation of the cause of her death. However, the accused is still at large. — Correspondent
