ISLAMABAD, July 11: The district and session courts have been cordoned off by the law enforcers amid the threat of an attack on Saturday as mentioned in a letter received by a judge three days ago, officials in police and local administration told Dawn on Friday.

They said security in and around the lower courts had been tightened after sounding a red alert at the court complex and its adjacent areas.

The steps were taken after a threat letter addressed to District and Sessions Judge Mirza Rafiuz Zaman was received on Wednesday. The letter contained threats of bombings and suicide attacks on the courts.

A large contingent of well-equipped police personnel were deployed in and around the courts, which had been cordoned off using cement barricades and barbed wire. Besides, policemen have also been deployed on rooftops of the courts, lawyers’ chambers and adjacent buildings.

The law enforcers will regulate the entry of people into the courts, the officials said, adding that physical search as well as scanning through metal detectors would be conducted at the entry points.
