SUKKUR, July 11: Partici-pants of a walk to mark the ‘World Population Day’ on Friday firmly believed the speedy population growth to be behind the food crisis. They urged the media, NGOS and elected representatives to play their due role in this regard.

Organized by the Population Welfare Department and led by Sukkur Taluka Naib Nazim Ghulam Murtaza Ghanghro, the walk started from Sukkur Hospital and after marching on main thoroughfares terminated at the local press club.

Ghulam Murtaza Ghanghro, Dr Naeem, Allah Ubhayo Solangi, Saima Perveen and others citing population growth to be main reason cautioned the crisis may turn into a grave situation if it was not checked and allowed to grow at the same rate.

Speakers were of the view that such walks, seminars and workshops should be organized in rural areas to educate people. They said that without controlling population growth we would not be able achieve the goal of development. They also urged upon the media, NGOS and elected representatives to play their role in this regard.

ACCIDENT: A man died and two others injured in a road accident at Sukkur Bypass on the night between Thursday and Friday.

Ghulam Rasool Mirani, Mohammad Bux Mirani and Saleh Mirani were standing at Sukkur Bypass when a speedy car hit them resulting in injuries to all three. They were rushed to the Civil Hospital, Sukkur where Ghulam Rasool died.

Driver fled from the scene in the car and no case was registered.

In Naushahro Feroze, Population Department employees, including female staff took out a rally to mark the “World Population Day” on Friday. The rally, led by Hameed, Rahim Bux, started from the department’s office, Officers stressed on creating awareness on the effects of reduction in population growth in country’s development.
