KARACHI: Restaurant owner shot dead

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, July 11: A restaurant owner was shot dead in Saddar in broad daylight on Friday, as reasons behind the murder remained unclear both for the area police and employees of the eatery.

“Two men, after parking their motorcycle outside, entered the restaurant and inquired about the owner,” said a duty officer at Preedy police station.

“They entered the room, where he was sitting. Soon after, a few gunshots were heard and people at the restaurant saw the two men running out,” police said.

Police have registered an FIR (468/2008) under Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code and are trying to establish the identities of both in the light of eyewitnesses’ accounts.

Accident

A woman was killed and her husband sustained serious injuries in a road accident in Cattle Colony on Friday.

The couple was on a motorcycle when they were hit by an overtaking truck. Thirty-year-old Surraya died on the spot, while 35-year-old Ameer Masih was rushed to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre in an unconscious state, said an official of Shah Latif police station.

“However, we managed to arrest the truck driver, who was found carelessly driving on a congested patch of the road,” he said, elaborating that a few motorcyclists and motorists chased the truck and got hold of the fleeing driver.
