RAWALPINDI, July 10: Misfortune continues to haunt an undertrial prisoner, who had been in different jails of the country since 1986 and claims to be a former judge of Lahore High court (LHC), as the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) here on Thursday sought his judicial custody in another case registered against him under the Passport Act.

Special Judge (Central) Shaukat Ali Sajid sent Ghulam Mustafa Ismail Qazi to the Adiala Jail for 14 days on judicial remand after an FIA sub-inspector informed the court that the accused was declared proclaimed offender after he obtained bail in the case but never turned up in the court.

Siddiq Mughal, the lawyer of the accused, told Dawn that the said case was disposed off after his client inked compromise with the complainant. He said he had submitted an application with the court seeking the complete record of the case.

There are two cases pending against Mr Qazi and he was granted bail in these by the LHC Rawalpindi bench in 1998 and the bail is still intact, the lawyer said.
