Students’ rally against DUHS entry test

BADIN, July 10: A large number of students held a procession here on Thursday in protest against announcement of admission test by the Dow University of Health Sciences of Karachi before the announcement of intermediate results.

They said it was aimed at stopping students from interior of Sindh from applying for admission to the university.

The procession, which was held under the aegis of Shagird Ittehad Badin, started from Shahnawaz Chowk and terminated at the press club, where the protesters observed a sit-in and blocked the road for two hours.

Ittehad leaders Ghulam Rasool Soomro, Shahid Jokhio, Razzak Sheikh and Wafa Latif Jokhio said that the academic institutions of Karachi had been turned into no-go areas for students of interior Sindh.

They said that holding entry test for admission to MBBS in DUHS even before the announcement of intermediate result was an anti-student step and demanded cancellation of test results and announcement of a new entry test. The students of interior Sindh should be given permission to take this test, they demanded.

The department formed the teams on the directives of National Assembly Speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza and Sindh Home Minister Dr Zulfiqar Ali Mirza to control sale of fake agricultural inputs.

The committee headed by District Officer Mohammad Yousuf Rahimoon conducted raids on shops in Talhar, Raju Khanani and Kario Ghanwar and collected eight samples of fertiliser and six samples of pesticides and sent them to laboratory for chemical analysis.

Mr Rahmon asked the growers to point out the dealers who were involved in selling fake pesticides and fertiliser so that stern action could be taken against them.
