HYDERABAD, July 10: Sindh Minister for Information Shazia Marri has said that the Pakistan People’s Party has always come to power to extricate the country from a difficult situation.

Talking to noted writers and intellectuals on political and economic situation during a visit to Radio Pakistan. She said that the former rulers had destroyed the economy, culture and literature of the province.

She called upon writers and intellectuals of the province to redouble their efforts for the promotion of literature and culture. The 60-year history of the country did not make anyone proud as military dictators had ruled over it directly for 45 years and indirectly for 15 years, she said.

The party would translate into reality the dreams of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto who sacrificed their lives for the cause of democracy and people.

The writers and the intellectuals who exchanged views with the minister included Ibrahim Joyo, Hameed Sindhi, Taj Joyo, Dr Fehmida Hussain, Ms Sehar Imdad, Tariq Alam Abro, Dr Qazi Khadim Hussain and others.

Later, Ms Marri visited the residence of PPP MPA Farheen Mughal and offered fateha for the departed soul of her mother-in-law.

SPURIOUS MEAT: Hyderabad District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil has directed the officials concerned to initiate legal proceedings against the people who are involved in selling substandard and unhygienic meat.

He said in a meeting with district meat committee here on Wednesday that that kid-meat, veal and pressured-meat were being openly sold in market while some people had set up illegal slaughterhouses in their houses.

The officials of the meat department must realise their responsibility and stop the sale of unhygienic meat, he aid and directed police to cooperate with meat committee in bringing the culprits to book.

City Taluka Nazim Ghulam Shabbar Chishti, Executive District Officer of revenue department Syed Barkaat Rizvi, chairman of meat committee Mohammad Javed Qureshi and taluka officers attended the meeting.
