PESHAWAR: ‘Militant’ among five picked up from hospital
By Ashfaq Yusufzai
PESHAWAR, July 10: An under-treatment patient suspected to be involved in the killing of four Frontier Corps personnel and four other persons were taken away by personnel of law enforcement agencies from the government-run Khyber College of Dentistry late Wednesday night, sources told Dawn.
Official sources claimed that the patient belonged to a group of militants active in Darra Adamkhel. They alleged that he was involved in the killing of four personnel of Chitral Scouts in Akakhel area of Khyber Agency on July 8.
“Five persons including a patient and employees of the Khyber College of Dentistry (KCD) were bundled in the vehicles on Wednesday night,” eyewitnesses said. The college’s administration has lodged a complaint against unidentified persons with the police station at University of Peshawar.
Sources said that 23-year-old Amjad Afridi, a resident of Darra Adamkhel, was admitted to the hospital due to oral injuries caused by firearm at around 1pm on Wednesday.
They added that about 10 to 20 armed and uniformed persons riding in six vehicles came to KCD at around 9pm. They went straight to the ward where Amjad was admitted. “They tied his feet and hands and threw him in one of the vehicles parked outside the hospital’s gate.
Eyewitnesses said that the unidentified armed persons shouted at Amjad telling him that they were looking for him for so long and he was lying there.
A watchman and two ward orderlies, who were resisting the move, were also picked up by them and put into one of the vehicles.
The taken away ward orderlies were identified as Fasihullah and Bakht Rawan while the watchman was recognised as Ubaidullah. A watchman of an under construction building near the KCD, whose name could not be ascertained was also taken away by the armed persons when he tried to resist them.
KCD principal Prof Qiamuddin rushed to the spot and informed the police about the attack and kidnapping of employees. However, the police expressed ignorance about the incident.
Sources said that the principal also sent letters to NWFP Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani and other high-ranking officials asking for the recovery of kidnapped employees.
They said that the police had no clue to the whereabouts of the kidnapped persons and added that it was apparently the handiwork of the secret agencies and the police could do no help in this regard.
“We saw them picking the men, but we cannot prevent the sleuths of secret agencies from picking up or seizing persons,” said sources in campus police.
