KARACHI: Action against hoarders, profiteers ordered

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, July 9: Sindh Chief Secretary Fazl-ur-Rehman has directed all district coordination officers (DCOs) to ensure availability of consumer items, including essential goods and items of daily use, at the wholesale and retail outlets across the city at the government prescribed rates.

In a notice to the DCOs, he ordered on the spot strict action against anyone indulging in hoarding and profiteering.

He also directed them to keep a check on adulteration and take appropriate action against those involved.

Referring to the decisions taken at a recent meeting presided over by Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, the chief secretary said the campaign against hoarders and profiteers should be made result-oriented.

He stressed that the implementation of the government’s price list be ensured so that people could get flour, sugar, ghee, pulses and all such commodities at a reasonable price.

The chief secretary called for close coordination between all the concerned-departments, including police, Bureau of Prices and Supplies and revenue department.

Acting upon public complaints, he issued directives for checking prices of meat, milk, vegetables and fruit.

The provincial government has constituted raiding teams which have been tasked with conducting raids at markets and shops to check profiteering.
