10 chambers endorse strike call

LAHORE, July 9: Ten chambers of commerce and industry from Punjab, Sindh and the NWFP have endorsed the July 11 strike call given by the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce.

They constituted an action committee for holding talks with the government for withdrawal of increase in gas tariff and sales tax and the levy of 10 per cent withholding tax on electricity bills.

Lahore chamber president Muhammad Ali Mian; Islamabad chamber president Ijaz Abbasi; Sialkot chamber president Dr Khurram Anwar Khwaja; Gujranwala chamber president Riaz Ahmed Bajwa; Sarhad chamber president Haji Muhammad Asif; Gujrat chamber president Khwaja Khawar Rafiq; Sheikhupura chamber president Mian Muhammad Yousaf; Rawalpindi chamber president Abdul Rauf; Sargodha chamber president Amer Ata Bajwa addressed an emergency press conference here on Wednesday.

They said that the strike called by the Faisalabad Chamber should be taken as a token strike. The scope of strike would be extended to the whole of the country in case the government refused to give any relief to the business community.
