Wimbledon men’s final hit by rain
LONDON, July 6: Play in the Wimbledon men’s singles final resumed on Sunday evening after a second interruption for rain with the match between Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer delicately poised at 2-2 and 40-40 in the fifth and final set.
Play resumed at 1920 GMT with approximately one hour of daylight remaining and organisers keeping their fingers crossed that they could avoid the final running over into Monday.
Nadal won the first two sets 6-4 but defending champion Federer fought back by winning tiebreaks in both the third and fourth, saving two match points in the fourth.
The Spaniard had led 5/2 in the fourth set breaker but the champion stormed back to lead 6/5 and claim a set point which Nadal saved.—AFP
