PESHAWAR, July 6: Security was put on red alert in the city in the wake of a suicide explosion in Islamabad on Sunday evening.

SSP operations, Kashif Alam told reporters here that security had already been tightened at important government installations, sensitive points and public places.

He said that directives had been issued to police officers to further beef up security at hotels, railway stations, bus stops, markets, cinemas, colleges and universities.

Mr Alam said that instructions had also been issued to the police personnel to ask transporters to check the luggage of passengers before boarding.

The police officer said that close circuit cameras had been installed at important places to monitor the movement of suspected elements. He urged people to inform police if they see any suspicious material near their surroundings. — APP
