LAKKI MARWAT, July 6: Arrangements made for the upcoming three-day anti-polio drive in the district were reviewed at a meeting held here the other day with assistant coordination officer Syed Khalid Israr Shah in the chair.

The executive district officer health Dr Abdul Rehman and district communication officer health Dr Irfanullah Khan Marwat briefed the participants about the preparations made for making the polio eradication campaign a success”, said an official statement issued after the meeting.

The health officials told the meeting that the health department would make all out efforts to achieve the target of immunising 126,500 children below five years of age during the three day drive to commence from July 8.

They said that the district had been divided into 10 zones with appointment of as many as 58 area supervisors to monitor the work of 333 polio teams. They said that four transit teams out of eight would be kept engaged for vaccination of children on the 4th and 5th day of the round.

Speaking on the occasion, ACO Syed Khalid Israr Shah emphasised the need for launching concerted efforts to wipe out the deadly disease from the district completely. He said that by launching awareness drive and holding corner meetings with the parents the set target could easily be achieved.

He appreciated the officials of the health department for bringing a sound decrease in the polio refusal cases, calling upon them to seek help from teachers, clerics, social workers, revenue employees and volunteers in order to make the anti-polio campaign a success.

He called upon the parents to realise their responsibilities and extend their full support towards polio teams by vaccinating their children against the fatal epidemic. The district support person of the Unicef Dr Rafiullah Khan and officials of the line departments also attended the meeting.

BAR MEETING: The Lakki Marwat Bar Association has demanded of Wapda to accelerate work on the 132 KV Tajazai grid station project to ensure its timely completion.

The demand was made during a meeting of the district bar which was presided over by its president advocate Abdul Majid Khan here on Saturday. The meeting was convened on the requisition of a senior lawyer and former city nazim advocate Naimatullah Khan Khoidadkhel to discuss the grid station issue as well as problems of loadshedding and low voltage.
