LAKKI MARWAT, July 6: Local traders blocked the Bannu-Mianwali road in protest against the ‘failure’ of Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) officials to rectify a faulty electric transformer here on Sunday.

However, Pesco officials repaired the transformer and restored electricity supply in the area afterwards.

Earlier, the protesters said that the transformer was out of order for the last three days causing suspension of electricity and local people particularly shopkeepers and traders were facing problems.

They alleged that the concerned staffers of the Pesco did not bother to fix the fault despite requests in this regard. The businessmen said they got rectified the fault twice earlier by collecting money from the shopkeepers.

Closure of the road for more than an hour and scorching heat multiplied the miseries of both transporters and commuters travelling between the NWFP and Punjab. Later, the protesters opened the road for traffic and dispersed peacefully after the Lakki Marwat police officials held talks with trade leaders.

TEACHERS PROMOTED: District Coordination Officer (DCO) Amer Latif has sanctioned award of higher scales to 103 trained male CT teachers on account of possessing higher qualification of BA/BSC.

The DCO, being the competent authority, has accorded sanction for scale upgradation in pursuance of the two separate notifications, issued by the provincial finance department in October last year and April, 2008, sources said.

They said that 90 teachers in BPS-14 were awarded BPS-15, while five in BPS-12 were promoted to BPS-15. Similarly, eight CT teachers in BPS-9 were promoted to BPS-15.
