ISLAMABAD, July 5: Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Saturday chaired a meeting to review performance of his government on completion of its 100 days in office.

An official announcement after the meeting, however, failed to give any details of whether the prime minister was satisfied with the 100-day performance or he had expressed dissatisfaction over the fact instead of giving any relief to people the government had burdened them with increase in price of commodities and utility services.

The prime minister had made a statement in the National Assembly on May 29 giving a programme for accomplishment in the first 100 days of his government.

Mr Gilani while chairing the meeting reiterated the government’s commitment to providing basic necessities of life to people at their doorsteps in line with the PPP manifesto and the vision of Benazir Bhutto.

Minister for Finance Naveed Qamar, Minister for Law and Justice Farooq H. Naik, special assistant to the PM on social sector Shehnaz Wazir Ali and others attended the meeting.

Reviewing the 100-day agenda, the prime minister reiterated that the government would live up to the expectations of people who had voted the PPP to power.

He said the government despite facing many challenges had taken steps for providing food and energy security to every citizen in addition to restoring the confidence of the investors.

He mentioned the government’s resource conservation drive, including reducing the budget of the PM’s House and that of the PM secretariat by 40 per cent.

He said the government had taken steps for strengthening democratic institutions in the country and ensuring supremacy of parliament, independence of judiciary and freedom of media.
